Making heritage relevant for everyone

James Mackintosh Architects Limited is an RIBA chartered practice based in Chipping Norton. We specialise on work to listed buildings, scheduled ancient monuments and buildings in conservation areas. We hold accreditation in building conservation.

Our aim is to make heritage relevant for everyone. The basis of our approach is simple: understanding the spirit of place, and developing a response based on its significance, creating an authentic and sympathetic solution.

What defines our practice is our ability to see beyond the technical aspects of preservation and appreciate how heritage must adapt to be commercially viable, sustainable and to remain relevant today. We believe that great conservation is brought about by working collaboratively with specialists and professionals with an aligned philosophical approach. We hold high value in sharing experiences, through teaching and social media, providing talks, writing and contributing to articles. We live and learn through our projects and document our findings and decisions made for others to appreciate in the future.
