A young Jamaican British woman straddling two cultures; an aspiring artist in the London of the Great Exhibition; an older woman forming a tentative friendship with a Danish man: the central characters created by this year’s panel of debut novelists are diverse. What the novels have in common is excellent writing and the excitement that their publication has created.

Authors Candice Carty-Williams, Elizabeth Macneal and Anne Youngson are in conversation with Joe Haddow.
