Be nice, smile more, make room! Society expects women to behave in very prescribed ways but what happens to an unmotherly mother, an enslaved yet powerful young woman, a community of women without men? Join Lucy Atkins (Magpie Lane), Sara Collins (The Confessions of Frannie Langton), Merilyn Davies (When I Lost You) and Kiran Milwood Hargrave (The Mercies) as they explore how the women in their novels break free from societal restrictions and how ignoring the rules can free up plot, character and story.
