Stewart Ross was inspired to write by his great-grandfather, a vast Scotsman with a spreading beard who wrote masses of rather bad dum-de-dum poetry. After teaching all over the world, Stewart became a full-time author in 1989. He has now lost count of the number of books he has written, for both children and adults. Some are fiction, others information, and a number have even won prizes. Among his current projects are some Twisted Fairy Tales, a mega nonfiction book The First of Everything, and more Timeliners, a series that started under the title Coming Alive in 1994 and is still going strong. He also writes plays, lyrics and other bits and pieces. Stewart lives near Canterbury and each morning commutes ten metres to work in a large hut in the garden.
